Alia Bhatt has been confirmed as one of the presenters for the 2026 BAFTA Film Awards, joining big names like Cillian Murphy, Kate Hudson, Glenn Close, Bryan Cranston, Emily Watson, Ethan Hawke and Riz Ahmed. The ceremony happens on February 22 at London’s Royal Festival Hall. When the British Academy broke the news, Alia didn’t waste time, she shared BAFTA’s announcement on her Instagram story with a playful “100 points if you can spot me.”

She’s part of a growing presence of Indian actors making their mark at major international events. Indian actors have also been part of the BAFTA stage in previous years with Priyanka Chopra Jonas presenting in 2021 and Deepika Padukone attending the ceremony in 2024. The EE BAFTA Film Awards celebrate the best in world cinema every year, and this time, Alan Cumming will host.

Amazon Prime Video is set to bring Patricia Cornwell’s iconic forensic character to life in Scarpetta, a highly anticipated crime thriller starring Nicole Kidman, the first season of Scarpetta will be available in full on March 11, 2026, giving viewers the chance to watch all eight episodes in one go. At the heart of the series is Dr. Kay Scarpetta, a sharp and methodical forensic pathologist, who returns to her hometown to reclaim her role as chief medical examiner. The story moves between two eras: the late 1990s, which reveals Scarpetta’s early days on the job, and the present, where she returns to confront a haunting case from her past.

The trailer establishes the stakes clearly. Scarpetta is determined to “serve as the voice of the victims” while uncovering a serial killer known in the media as “Our Lady of the Train Tracks. The narrative promises a layered story, balancing the procedural details of forensic investigation with the psychological toll the work takes on Scarpetta and those around her. As the transcript suggests, Scarpetta grapples with questions about second chances, unresolved past cases, and the personal cost of justice.

Along with Kidman, viewers will see a cast of skilled actors bringing the story to life:

Jamie Lee Curtis as Dorothy Farinelli, Scarpetta’s complex and sometimes conflicted sister.

Bobby Cannavale plays Detective Pete Marino, Scarpetta’s practical and streetwise partner who keeps her grounded.

Simon Baker as FBI profiler Benton Wesley, adding depth to the investigative angle.

Ariana DeBose takes on the role of Lucy Farinelli-Watson, Scarpetta’s sharp and tech-minded niece, who brings a modern edge to the investigation.

The series uses flashbacks to portray its characters in their younger years, revealing how their past actions and connections shape what happens in the present. Scarpetta is produced by Amazon MGM Studios, Blumhouse Television, and Comet Pictures, with Kidman and Curtis also serving as executive producers. Emmy-nominated writer Liz Sarnoff (known for Barry and Lost) adapted Cornwell’s novels for the screen. Several episodes are directed by David Gordon Green.

The nominations for the 32nd Annual Actor Awards, formerly known as the Screen Actors Guild Awards, have officially been announced. While some frontrunners strengthened their place in this year’s awards race, several high-profile names were surprisingly left out, making this year’s nominations one of the most debated in recent memory.

Announced on January 7 by Abbott Elementary star Jannelle James and Heated Rivalry actor Connie Storrie, the nominations spotlighted major contenders such as “One Battle After Another”, “Sinners”, “The Pitt”, “The Studio”, and “Adolescence”.

Dwayne Johnson was surprisingly left out, even though his performance in “The Smashing Machine” had received plenty of praise. His co-star Emily Blunt was also overlooked, despite both actors receiving nominations at other major award shows. The absence was especially notable given the strong momentum going into awards season.

Another notable omission was Cynthia Erivo, whose performance in “Wicked: For Good” had positioned her as a strong contender. While Ariana Grande earned a supporting actress nominations for reprising her role as Glinda, Erivo’s absence marked a sharp contrast to the franchise’s awards success during the 2025 awards season.

Television fans were equally shocked by the lack of individual nominations for Kristen Bell in “Nobody Wants This” and Jeremy Allen White, who was overlooked both for “The Bear” and his portrayal of Bruce Springsteen in “Deliver Me from Nowhere.”

Veteran actors George Clooney and Adam Sandler received no recognition for “Jay Kelly”, despite widespread expectations.

International cinema didn’t fare much better, as Joachim Trier’s “Sentimental Value” is widely regarded as an awards-season favorite, failed to secure acting nominations for its ensemble cast, including Elle Fanning and Renate Reinsve.

While some omissions disappointed fans, several unexpected nominations injected excitement into the list, Kate Hudson emerged as one of the surprises, earning a lead actress nomination for “Song Sung Blue,” breaking into one of the most competitive categories of the year.

Miles Caton had two nominations for “Sinners,” coming right after his Critics Choice Award win. At just 20 years old, Caton’s riding success signals a promising future in the industry.

Another pleasant shock was Odessa A’Zion, who earned recognition for “Marty Supreme,” further solidifying the film’s strong showing alongside lead actor Timothée Chalamet. Jesse Plemons also defied expectations with a lead actor nominationsfor his role in “Bugonia,” emerging as a potential dark-horse contender.

On the television side, “Stranger Things” received rare recognition in the stunt ensemble category for its final season, while Taylor Sheridan’s Landman surprised with nominations for both drama ensemble and stunt performance after being largely ignored elsewhere.

Perhaps the impressive breakthrough came from Chase Infiniti, whose performance in “One Battle After Another” earned widespread recognition. The film earned nominations in almost every acting category, marking Infiniti as one of the season’s most promising new talents.

Awards Season Heats Up

With the Actor Awards ceremony set to stream live on Netflix on March 1, these nominations have set the stage for what promises to be an exciting and closely watched awards season.
