Chris Evans Returns as Captain America in Avengers: Doomsday, Signaling Marvel’s Next Multiverse Chapter
After months of rumors, Marvel has finally confirmed it: Chris Evans is returning as Steve Rogers in Avengers: Doomsday. The reveal comes through the film’s first teaser, which quietly but clearly signals that the former Captain America still has a role to play in the MCU’s next chapter.

The teaser, shown before screenings of Avatar: Fire and Ash, features Steve Rogers riding a motorcycle back to the quiet home where fans last saw him at the close of Avengers: Endgame.

Inside, he opens a box with his old Captain America suit and stops for a moment. It takes a surprising turn when the camera reveals Steve holding a newborn child, smiling as a father. The video closes with a message confirming Steve Rogers’ return in Avengers: Doomsday.
Notably, the teaser refers to him as Steve Rogers, not Captain America. Steve passed the shield to Sam Wilson in Endgame, and this wording suggests his role may be different this time around. Rather than leading the charge, he could serve as a guide or advisor as the Avengers face a new multiversal threat, reportedly Doctor Doom, played by Robert Downey Jr.

Evans had previously said he was “happily retired” from the MCU, which made the confirmation even more surprising. Evans was not included in Marvel’s initial casting announcement when production began earlier this year.
Avengers: Doomsday, directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, arrives in theaters on December 18, 2026, with Avengers: Secret Wars following a year later. With legacy characters, X-Men, Fantastic Four, and multiverse storylines converging, Evans’ return adds emotional weight to what’s shaping up to be Marvel’s most ambitious crossover yet.
