The 2016 Fashion Trends are Coming Back

Published

Trends that dominated 2016 are firmly back in the forefront in 2026, creating nostalgic style moments from casual streetwear to the runway. This is an unexpected throwback to the past for fashion. The mid-2010s are being channelled by designers, influencers, and A-list celebrities with stylish modern twists, demonstrating that what was once retro is now surprisingly relevant.

Famous wardrobe essentials like chokers, off-the-shoulder tops, baseball caps, and graphic tees pieces that flooded festival fashion ten years ago, are now redesigned for 2026 and are at the front of this comeback. To update these looks beyond their initial casual vibe, stylists advise wearing chokers with layered necklaces and off-the-shoulder tops with fitted pants.

Celebrities are actively participating in the throwback trend. Social media has erupted with a 2016 throwback challenge, seeing stars like Kylie Jenner, Lucy Hale and Eva Longoria revisiting flannel shirts, mirrored sunglasses and distressed denim, classic hallmarks of 2016’s carefree aesthetic.

Royal influence hasn’t been ignored either. Princess Kate has inspired fashion fans by reviving her 2016 British Vogue cover look, particularly the suede trench coat, as a must-have transitional piece for the season.

High fashion is experiencing nostalgia as well. Many Spring/Summer collections pay homage to the spirit of the decade, embracing colorful accessories and streetwear influences that ruled runways ten years ago, even as designers continue to push forward.

Winter chill doesn’t have to mean dull layers. The puffer jacket  has evolved into a playful, ready to elevate even the simplest outfit. From unexpected leather combos to bold, clashing prints, this jacket proves that warmth can be stylish and versatile. Here’s how to style puffers for maximum effect.

The fashion powerhouse Jenna Lyons demonstrates her easy way for making everyday wear look elevated. She wore a minimalist beige puffer coat, black relaxed jeans and a pair of black heels. This adds a fresh take on puffer styling, moving beyond the usual boots pairing.

Monochromatic dressing is a reliable  way to make a puffer jacket look smart. This black puffer jacket elevates an everyday outfit when paired with matching head-to-toe pieces. For a finishing touch, add some bold earrings, a leather purse, and a pair of stylish sunglasses.

Although puffer coats are essential, they don’t have to be dull. Add some colour to gloomy winter days with a variety of standout designs, such as animal-print pants or festive winter outfits. Bold patterns, unexpected textures, and playful contrasts  bring life and energy to a practical winter essential. From plaids to graphic motifs, mixing prints brings energy, personality, and character to cold-weather dressing, making it clear that warmth and style can exist together.

With Leather Trousers

This outfit shows that leather trousers can work well with a puffer jacket, despite their unconventional pairing. Opt for complementary colours, such as a khaki or cream puffer and black or brown trousers, rather than a full-black outfit, which can feel heavy or overpowering. Choose your accessories carefully as well; coordinating them with your leather trousers will create a well-balanced finish.

With Tailoring

A hybrid leather-puffer jacket is an excellent example of where form and function meet. Combining large outerwear with precise tailoring and knee-high boots creates a well thought out and put-together look.
