A construction worker died after a tragic accident on Sunday, April 26, while he was helping set up the stage for Shakira’s big concert in Brazil. Organizers confirmed the news following an incident that took place at Copacabana Beach in Rio de Janeiro, where workers were setting up for “Todo Mundo no Rio,” a large outdoor concert that typically attracts huge crowds along the waterfront. Event organizers posted a statement on Instagram, saying they lost “a professional who was working on assembling the structures for the show”. They explained that first responders gave immediate care before the fire department assisted with the transfer to the hospital. They added they are committed to fully supporting the victim’s family, the company he worked for, and the rest of the team. The state fire brigade also confirmed the incident, stating that coworkers had freed him from the machinery before emergency teams arrived.

The concert is part of Shakira’s larger Brazil tour. Earlier this month, her shows in India set for Mumbai on April 10 and New Delhi on April 15, were postponed, with organizers blaming the regional geopolitical situation. Following Sunday’s accident, there has been no official confirmation on whether the Brazil concert will proceed.
